A craft inspired by A Journey to the New World:
The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple, Mayflower, 1620

Cranberries
Cranberries were one of the most common fruits eaten by the Pilgrims and Indians. They are still deliciously popular today and used in many traditional recipes. This fun game gives participants a chance to win an unusual race AND enjoy a tasty treat at the finish!

MATERIALS:
1 cup of fresh cranberries
Needle
18-24 inches of strong thread. Option: use popped popcorn

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Take stems off of cranberries.
  2. Rinse and dry them — careful, cranberries stain!
  3. Tie a large enough knot at the end of the thread to hold the first cranberry (this gives everyone a practice!).
  4. Then, shake hands with your opponents, gather close to the bowl of berries and ready, set, go! The first one to fill their string to the end with cranberries is the winner!
  5. Now, the fun part...pick those berries off of the thread, and tell everyone something your thankful for and one at a time, then dip them in peanut butter or whipped cream — YUM! In the case that you have any leftovers, feed your feathered friends outside a special treat!
