A craft inspired by My Face To The Wind:
The Diary of Sarah Jane Price, A Prairie Teacher,
Broken Bow, Nebraska, 1881

Just like in 1881, a late-season snowstorm didn’t just mean a day off from school...it also meant lots of fresh new snow to make Maple Syrup candy! These candies are fun to make on any snowday.

MATERIALS:

Clean, Fresh Snow
Real Maple Syrup

DIRECTIONS:
Fill large pans with fresh, clean, firmly packed snow. Boil 4 cups of maple syrup until it reaches the soft-ball stage, then pour it in a thin stream from a large spoon onto the snow. After the syrup has started to harden, it can be lifted in sections with a fork and twisted into different shapes!
