A craft inspired by Dreams in the Golden Country:
The Diary of Zipporah Feldman, a Jewish Immigrant Girl, New York City, 1903

Way before video games and cartoons, neighborhood kids enjoyed playing street games! Without much money for entertainment, they used their imaginations to find ways to have fun. This vintage street game can be played anywhere (no plug needed!) so get out there and have fun!

MATERIALS:
(For groups of two people or more)
All you need to play this game are pennies! Place the penny on the edge of the table and then hit it with the palm of the hand. The goal of the game is to get your penny the closest to the opposite end of the table without going off the edge. If the penny falls off of the table, you lose. Tactical play would mean that the next player could aim for your ha'penny and knock it off the table!

DIRECTIONS:

Another version of this game uses coins again but instead of inside on a table this game is played outside in the road. Each player takes a coin and standing a set distance from a wall or curb attempts to toss the coin towards this edge. The second player attempts to toss their coin from the same distance. Whoever is the closest wins a point (or wins the coins)! Have fun!
