A craft inspired by Lady of Ch’iao Kuo:
Warrior of the South, Southern China, A.D. 531

chopstickschopsticks
In the Asian culture, chopsticks not only make great eating utensils, but they also make great hair accessories. There’s no limit to how you can decorate them — so get creative!

MATERIALS:
  • Chopsticks from any Chinese restaurant
  • Your favorite decorations: Paint, glitter, ribbon, beads, sequins, small stickers
  • Glue
DIRECTIONS:

Make these Chopsticks as unique as you are!
Here are some ideas:
  1. Paint the top half of your chopsticks your favorite color, then let dry.
  2. Glue pretty beads, sequins, or paste tiny stickers around the very top
  3. Or, tie pretty ribbons to the top of the chopstick (and glue to keep in place), and let them hang down
  4. Tie and knot a piece of thread at the top of the chopstick and let one side hang down longer than the other. Then wrap the long piece around a few more times and knot it again. String your beads onto the ends of the thread, knot the bottom, and trim the ends.
Make a couple of different styles of these for different occasions...everyday ones you stick thru wet hair on your way to school and fancy ones for a night out!

No matter how you decorate your Chopsticks, make sure you do not decorate the part of the Chopsticks that will be sticking through your hair. Have fun!
