Submitting Manuscripts or Teaching Ideas
Scholastic accepts unsolicited ideas in the area of Professional Books only. Please see the Guidelines below.

OVERVIEW

Scholastic Professional Books is committed to helping teachers by providing a full range of high-quality books. Most are written by educators working in many settings — and especially by teachers. We are eager to be the vehicle teachers seek out to communicate:

  • their most exciting projects and activities
  • their specific teaching approaches and strategies
  • the results of research conducted in their own classrooms.
  • their reflections and ongoing questions

PUBLISHING PROGRAM

Scholastic Professional Books publishes 80–100 grade K–8 titles a year for educators and pre-service students.

Teaching Strategies Books
Small format books on new ideas, strategies, and approaches. Recent titles in this line include: Creating A Caring Classroom, Phonics from A – Z, Writing Effective Report Card Comments, and Easy-to-Manage Reading and Writing Conferences.

Instructor Books
Practical, activity/resource books for teaching integrated language arts, science, social studies, math, art and other areas. In addition, this line offers materials that address a variety of teaching styles and approaches. Some Instructor books include reproducibles. Recent titles in this line include: 75 Creative Ways to Publish Students' Writing, Math Art, Literature-Based Bulletin Boards, 25 Emergent Reader Mini Books, 350 Fabulous Writing Prompts, and Quilting Activities Across The Curriculum.

Grades 4-8 Books
These books are geared specifically to upper elementary and middle school needs. Latest titles: Teaching Genre, Immigration, Ready-to-Go Book Report Projects, Incredible Quotations, Map Crosswords, and 10 American History Plays.

Scholastic Reference Library
Very practical, hands-on reference materials tailored to classroom needs such as Kids Review Kids' Books, and Get A Grant: Yes You Can!

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We welcome submissions from all educators and are looking for current, helpful, and inspiring ideas, that show respect for all learners. Acceptance of proposals is based on originality of ideas, usefulness to educators working in mainstream settings, market need and fit with the directions and goals of Scholastic Professional Books.

To submit a teaching idea please send:

  • A brief description of the idea including the grade range for which it is appropriate.
  • A Table of Contents outlining the development of the book.
  • A sampling of the activities and projects if applicable or sample chapter.
  • Information about you — the author — such as a resume, writing sample, or already published work.
  • Query letters are not necessary. Response will be mailed within ten to twelve weeks.
