Dear Coach,

Welcome back to what promises to be another great sports year!

Sidelines brings you late-breaking stories, links to Coach & AD editorial features, news you need from manufacturers and suppliers, and a chance to interact with fellow coaches and ADs on subjects of mutual interest. It also provides you with an opportunity to tell our editors about topics you need to know more about from the coaching world.

The Coach & AD staff is also pleased to announce a total redesign to our Web site, www.coachad.com. It now has a great new look and feel. Plus, we have introduced Powerline ONLINE, a video version of our popular strength and conditioning column in addition to animated, interactive basketball diagrams. Now, the No. 1 magazine for athletic professionals is the No. 1 Web site for athletic professionals.

Best,

Did You See This?
Bleacher Creature…

Kenneth James Lane was arrested for brazenly dismantling a set of bleachers at a small ball field in Clover, S.C., in order to sell it as scrap metal.

Lane took apart a set of bleachers, two dugout benches, and a park bench valued at $4,000. When questioned by several onlookers, the thief told them he had permission and was just replacing the bleachers for a church.

Investigators found the metal at K & K Recycling in Gastonia, N.C., where perplexed workers had no inkling from where the huge haul had come.

Said K & K owner David Hutto: “The bleachers, when they came in here, they were bent up. It looked like scrap. He had tried to bend them in half and everything else.”

There was neither a Superman cape nor an empty can of spinach found on the premises.
