BIG Ideas Start at the YMCA – with You!
Clifford The Big Red Dog knows how much kids love to read and become great citizens. That’s why, for over 50 years, he’s been helping teachers, parents, and caregivers connect with kids and share meaningful life lessons through books.
This year, in honor of Clifford’s 50th anniversary, Clifford is bringing his BIG commitment to reading and making the world a better place to Y locations across the country. As the leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, the Y nurtures the potential of young people and helps them to learn and value foundational skills like reading. Together, Scholastic, Clifford, and the Y will celebrate Clifford’s birthday with a special event at participating Ys featuring BIG fun for kids and their families that reinforce the social, emotional, literacy and language skills that are essential to child development.
We are proud to be working to help children learn these invaluable positive behaviors, explore their unique talents and interests, and realize their full potential. Clifford’s BIG Ideas (Share, Help Others, Be Kind, Be Responsible, Play Fair, Be a Good Friend, Believe in Yourself, Respect Others, Work Together and Be Truthful) represent social and emotional challenges that children face and offer suggestions as to how they can master these challenges in the future. After all, it only takes a little to BE BIG!
