OBJECTIVE
Prepare your class for this special event with science and language arts lessons that provide a framework for students during the virtual field trip. Developed by Clearwater Marine Aquarium, these lessons will help students understand dolphin biology and marine life.
Lessons and activities are available for use before, during, and after the live event and can also be used to teach with the book, Winter's Tail. They are designed primarily for grades 3-5, but can be adapted for younger students.
Warm-Up Activities:
Before you begin, get kids excited with these warm-up activities:
- Dolphin Trivia: ask students to take this quiz at home the night before the lessons or field trip. Encourage online research to find the answers. Students can visit the following websites for help:
Or, as a classroom activity, structure the quiz questions around a game show format and play Dolphin Jeopardy!
- Dolphin Echolocation Game: similar to "four corners," this game will get kids moving and thinking like dolphins.
Lesson Plans
Introduce students to Winter and her dolphin family through a science vocabulary word search.
