MATERIALS
Worksheet 2, pencil
DIRECTIONS
1. Write the following list of paired words on the board: fox/box, cap/cake, sail/pail, fish/dish, hot/hat, car/jar. Read each pair aloud and have students raise their hands if the words have the same sound at the end. Challenge students to add additional rhyming words to each rhyming pair.
2. Distribute copies of Worksheet 2. Read each of the fire-safety rhymes aloud and have students call out the missing word to complete each rhyme. Help them write in the word in the space provided. Answer Key: out, sound, beep, out.
3. Review the fire-safety messages in each rhyme.
4. Send home the worksheet for students to share with their families.
