Grades 3-5 students will ask and answer questions based on informational text in order to better understand how to choose an outside meeting place with their families.

Choose an outside meeting place with your family so everyone knows where to go in case of fire; practice a family fire drill.

MATERIALS
Worksheet 3, pencils, Family Reproducible, Family Take-Home pages
DIRECTIONS
1. Hold a class discussion about fire safety. Have students share with you some of the fire-safety rules they have learned this week. Answer any questions they may have about what to do in case of fire.
2. Distribute copies of Worksheet 3. Have students read the informational text and study the diagram. Have them answer the comprehension questions. Answer Key: 1. b; 2. a; 3. d; 4 and 5: Answers will vary.
3. Send home the Family Reproducible and Family Take-Home pages. Encourage students to choose an outside meeting place with their families and practice a family fire drill.
