From Campaign 2008, Lesson 3: Role-Play Fire Safety
Reinforce what to do in case of fire with these fun role-playing activities.
OBJECTIVE
Goal: Students will practice what to do in case of fire.
MATERIALS
Family Printable (PDF), space for a role playing activity
DIRECTIONS
BACKGROUND DISCUSSION:
Explain that it is important to have an Escape Plan and practice it so that everyone knows what to do if a fire occurs.
Discuss and demonstrate each of the following fire-safety behaviors:
* Get low and go under the smoke to the nearest way out.
* Don't open any doors until you check the door to make sure it is not hot.
* Get out of the home and stay out.
* Meet your family at your Outside Meeting Place.
Invite students to role-play each of the fire-safety behaviors one-by-one.
USING THE FAMILY PRINTABLE:
Distribute copies of the Family Printable (PDF) to each student. (Crossword puzzle answers: Across: 1. heaters, 4. plan, 5.smoke; Down: 1. hot, 2. candles, 3. stay).
Ask students to conduct a Family Fire Drill at home. Students should go to sparky.org to make their fire drill count in The Great American Fire Drill.
WRAP-UP:
Ask the teachers of younger students if your students can help conduct this fire-safety role-playing activity in their classrooms!
