Election 2012: Primaries: April - June

Governor Mitt Romney pulled away from his remaining competitors as he won primaries in crucial states such as New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. With Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul announcing their withdrawals from the race, it appeared that Rick Santorum was the only Republican threat left for Romney. However, Romney finally solidified the Republican nomination by winning the Texas primary on May 29. After nearly a year of fighting for the spot on the Republican ticket, Romney could finally turn his sights on his Democratic opponent: President Barack Obama.
