Understanding Global Warming

Knut: How One Little Polar Bear Captivated the World, by Craig Hatkoff and his daughters Juliana and Isabella, is the inspiring true story about a polar bear born in the Berlin Zoo. His mother was unable to care for him, so Thomas Dorflein, a zookeeper, became Knut’s foster father.

Almost overnight Knut became the face of global warming and emerged as a symbol for a greener world as scientists have issued warnings that the polar bear will soon be extinct if radical measures are not taken.

Use the teaching resources below to help support the themes in the book, as well as giving students a better understanding of global warming.

Learn about other remarkable true stories about animals who have overcome adversity.

And don't forget to watch the Winter's Tail Virtual Field Trip Webcast.
