This starts as a simple tale about a very lonely old man and woman's search for a pretty cat to call their own. But the story gets complicated as the man, who sets out to find just one pet cat, returns home, to his wife's surprise, with a multitude of cats: "hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats!" When his wife points out their inability to afford so many furry friends, it is the cats that are left to decide who among them is the prettiest. It's not hard to figure out what might happen next!
Wanda Ga`g, who died in 1946, was a well-known author and illustrator of many loved children's books. Millions of Cats, named a 1929 Newbery Honor Book and a Lewis Carroll Shelf Award Book, is a charming story that explores issues of vanity and humility. Ga`g's works are invaluable additions to the world of children's literature.
