This starts as a simple tale about a very lonely old man and woman's search for a pretty cat to call their own. But the story gets complicated as the man, who sets out to find just one pet cat, returns home, to his wife's surprise, with a multitude of cats: "hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats!" Wanda Ga`g, who died in 1946, was a well-known author and illustrator of many loved children's books.
