Madagascar Goes to the Circus!

Your favorite zoo escapees return for a European adventure

By Dani Bergman Chudnow | June 7 , 2012

Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, Maurice, and, yes, the penguins are back in Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted!

In the new movie, the zoo escapees are chased around Europe as they try to get back home to New York. Along the way, they hideout in a circus and are joined by a cast of new crazy circus animals. It's a wild international adventure!

The new movie opens in theaters Friday, but last week Kid Reporter Dani Bergman Chudnow attended a press day in New York where she interviewed the voices behind the characters. Dani spoke with Ben Stiller (Alex), Chris Rock (Marty), David Schwimmer (Melman), Jada Pinkett Smith (Gloria), Cedric the Entertainer (Maurice), and Martin Short, who gives voice to a new character, Stefano the sea lion. The cast talks about the new movie, how they keep their characters fresh and funny, and what act they would perform if they joined the circus.

Click Play Video to watch the interviews, and check out the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps Blog for more about Dani's experience at the Madagascar 3 press day!

    Quick & Easy Math Art

    Quick & Easy Math Art

    by Deborah Schecter

What better way to engage students and deepen their mathematical understanding than with creative, hands-on art projects? Students use place-value knowledge to “build” Place-Value Skylines, multiply to create “Be Mine” Multiplication arrays, measure to create Area & Perimeter Pals, collect, display, and interpret data to assemble Sand Castle Glyphs, and more. Projects feature easy-to-find materials, step-by-step how-to’s, and reproducible templates and record sheets. Lessons make math meaningful and are great for introducing skills and concepts, reteaching, reinforcement, or review. Meets national and state math standards!
