A Role Model That's Out of This World
Dr. Cady Coleman inspires girls at White House
Since 1992, Dr. Cady Coleman has been an astronaut. She has been on three missions to space. Two of those missions were aboard Space Shuttle Columbia. On her third journey to space, Dr. Coleman spent 159 days — about five-and-a-half months — aboard the International Space Station (ISS) from the end of 2010 to May 2011.
In college, Dr. Coleman majored in electrical engineering and received her bachelor's degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1983, she became a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. She retired from the United States Air Force in November of 2009.
I had the opportunity to interview this inspirational woman at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Building at the Girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) event at the White House on April 24.
