Approximate time to complete lesson:
three to four class periods

Summary:
Students will view a video that introduces the topic of dogs in law enforcement. They will read the article twice, taking notes on a worksheet the second time. After discussing critical-thinking questions as a class, they will view two more videos and an image from a slide show to gather information. Then they will write a persuasive letter.

Main objectives:
• to read and understand a complex text
• to take notes on important details from the text
• to gather information and ideas from multiple texts and media types
• to participate in class discussion
• to write a persuasive letter
