Essay Kit/Debate:
Using Scope to support Common Core
Using Scope to support Common Core

Our Debate/Essay Kit feature is a fantastic way to support the Common Core, which stresses strong persuasive writing. In this issue’s debate, your students will read an article about what makes costly designer labels appealing and whether the true worth of these products matches the price. (Sure to spark lively discussion in your classroom!) Students identify text evidence on both sides of the debate and form their own opinion. Finally, they complete our handy Essay Kit, which walks them through the entire persuasive writing process—including revisions.
Your students will:
• identify and summarize key ideas and details from the article
• form their own opinion
• support their opinion with a well-crafted argument
• plan, revise, edit, and rewrite with our beloved Essay Kit
