Family Activity 1: Develop a Money Guideline

Getting Started
To prepare for this activity, review these important tips for talking to your kids about money. Talk to your child about the three ways we can use money: we can save it, share it, or spend it. Explain that everyone has to decide how they will divide their money among saving, sharing, and spending based on their personal beliefs, circumstances, and goals. Talk about your own beliefs and circumstances with your child.

Develop a Money Guideline
Once you and your child have discussed the ways that you save, share, and spend money, work together to establish a guideline for your child's saving, sharing, and spending using the Family Activity 1 Printable (PDF): "Develop a Money Guideline."

Now Try This
Money is not the only resource your children have. Discuss the idea that resources can be a person's time, talents, and treasure. Talk about your own resources and explain how you use your time, talents, and treasure to meet your life goals. Then use Bonus Activity 1 Printable (PDF): "Superheroes Plan" to help your children write about how they will use their time, talents, and treasure.
