Interactive whiteboard tips for this issue:
  • Get the issue ready before students come into the classroom. Project the cover onto your whiteboard, and use the spotlight tool to reveal only the caterpillar’s antenna.

  • When students come into the class, have them sit in front of the whiteboard and try to guess what the mystery creature is. Then reveal the whole cover. Did anybody guess what the creature was?

  • On p. 2 you can ask volunteers to circle the following caterpillars: the spiky caterpillar, the fuzzy caterpillar, the green caterpillar, the white caterpillar. Can they see the caterpillar that looks like a twig? Ask a volunteer to circle0 that one too.

  • Display p. 4 on the whiteboard. Ask volunteers to use the pen tool to follow the directions in the activity and answer the questions.

  • Display the cover of the magazine and read the headline. Ask students what the first letter of each word is. The letter ‘S’ appears a lot. Have a volunteer circle the letter S in each word.

  • Have students read the sport stars’ tips on pp. 2-3. Ask volunteers to use the pen tool to draw a line under a tip and read it out loud.

  • When you reach p. 4, ask students to use the pen tool to fill the blanks in the collectible cards.
