What is READ 100,000?
The purpose of READ 100,000 is to help schools strengthen student’s reading skills and recognize young readers. It does this by motivating students to read as part of a school team. Schools can participate at any time of the school year, whether it’s before, during, or after a Book Fair. Students can log and track every minute they read on the easy-to-use Web site – while aiming to exceed a team goal of reading 100,000 minutes or more. It’s fun, it’s motivating, and it’s absolutely free! Beyond tracking reading minutes, the site offers links to featured books, printable resources, reading calculator, and FAQ pages. Schools can prepare for the reading drive by downloading and printing reproducible reading logs, flyers, and more from the Chairperson’s Toolkit.

The READ 100,000 Web site is a fun, safe resource for schools and students alike that makes it easy for everyone to log and track their reading minutes. How does the Teacher/Parent approval process work?
How can I sign up my whole class or school to participate?
If a school is signing up multiple students and using one teacher’s email address during the sign up process, or if a parent has more than one child who signs up, one collective email is sent per 24-hour period requesting approval for all students who signed up during that time. This streamlines the registration process by limiting the number of emails, so the approver’s In-Box is not overwhelmed with repeated requests. The email requests approval for the students to participate in READ 100,000 and contains a link the teacher clicks on to go to the Scholastic Book Fairs approval web page. There, the teacher/parent will see all user names signed up that day for the teacher/parent’s email address. Once the teacher/parent approves the students, their accounts are activated within a week. After activation, students may log in and begin entering minutes. If a student attempts to log in before approval and activation, he/she will receive an error message asking the student to try again later. Parents will also be allowed multiple sign-ups.
Why is parent permission needed at all?
