Swigert International School
Every year the Swigert International School’s Book Fair in Denver, Colorado, uses its entire All for Books donations to purchase books for a local nonprofit. They raise their money through a spare change coin collection and the two classrooms that collect the most money receive the honor of personally delivering the books to the nonprofit.
This year, they collected $2,500 and bought books for Reach Out and Read, a charity that provides books to clinics throughout Colorado, including Salud Family Clinic. The doctors at the clinic give a book to each child during their annual exams and when they come in for sick visits, too. The doctors "prescribe" a book to the patients to highlight the importance of reading.
When the students at Swigert International delivered the books to Salud Family Clinic, a physician’s assistant introduced them to the program, read them a story, and thanked them for thinking of others.
