Community Book Sales – Volunteers

Volunteers
As the Community Book Sale’s organizer, it’s important to recruit and organize volunteers. Volunteers can help share the workload by acting as greeters, helping with publicity, setting up the sales, and running sale operations.

Recruit

  • Put a recruitment letter on your school's Web site and in the newsletter.
  • Call former sale volunteers and people who have helped with other school events.
  • Invite students from neighboring middle schools and high schools to assist.
  • Ask businesses and community school partners to join in the fun.
Organize
  • Use the Volunteer Schedule to keep track of volunteer work shifts.
  • Use the Volunteer Confirmation and Orientation Form to remind volunteers of their scheduled day and time.
  • Give each volunteer a name badge to make your helpers identifiable.
  • Show volunteers around the sale so they know the basic layout.
  • Explain basic Community Book Sale cashiering.
