Don’t miss a beat when it comes to publicity! Follow this handy timeline for publicizing your Fair.
One month to go:
- Your Book Fair Publicist creates a list of media contacts, with their names, phone, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.
- Begin a teaser campaign. Post signs announcing the upcoming Book Fair and include an article in your school newsletter.
- Complete the VIP Special Guest invitation and mail it to local dignitaries and celebrities.
Three weeks to go:
- Complete the pre-Fair press release with your information and send it by fax, mail, or e-mail to your list of reporters and editors.
- Decorate marquees and bulletin boards.
- Distribute flyers.
Two weeks to go:
- Display your Scholastic Book Fair posters.
- Send Book Lists and parent invitations home with students.
- Show the Author Video to students.
One week to go:
- Host classroom Booktalks.
- Post Book Fair signs near the car pool drop-off point and other high-traffic areas.
Three days to go:
- Call reporters and remind them about your Book Fair. Let them know about any special activities you have planned that might present an interesting photo opportunity.
- Begin broadcasting announcements about the Book Fair via your PA system.
During your Fair:
- Conduct student Booktalks and book reviews.
- Host a Book Fair preview for the school community.
- Host a teacher preview.
- Publicize business partners and local donations in your event communications and signage.
One to two days after your Fair:
- Complete the post-Fair press release with your Fair results and send it to your list of local newspapers, radio stations, and television studios.
- Save press clippings.
- Send a quick e-mail to reporters thanking them for their coverage.
