From Babbling to Books: Building
Pre-Reading Skills
Part of Reading Rockets’ 2005-06 teleconference series
Scholastic Inc. is proud to co-sponsor, with Reading Rockets,
this engaging teleconference event, that will promote understanding
the importance of nurturing an environment where critical
literacy skills can thrive within young children.
Panelists include Sharon Landesman Ramey, Julie Washington,
and Todd R. Risley, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the
University of Alaska and co-author of the critically-acclaimed
book, Meaningful Differences in the Everyday Experience
of Young American Children.
In this 60 minute webcast, the panelists will discuss the
importance of working with young children, as early as possible,
to develop language and pre-reading skills. They will also
offer research-based strategies for successfully developing
these skills, so children can become better readers.
Reading Rockets is a national multimedia project offering
information and resources on how young children learn to read,
why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help.
Beginning April 1, you can also view
the webcast.
