What Is Universal Design for Learning?

According to the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST), Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is characterized by design that builds accommodations for different types of learners directly into the curriculum. Here are CAST’s guidelines to determine whether a product or curriculum is UDL:

Multiple means of representation so that learners have numerous ways to access the content.

Multiple means of expression so that learners have countless options to show what they know.

Multiple means of engagement so that learners have many opportunities to be challenged and motivated.
