New York, NY (December 4, 2006) -- Just in time for the holidays, Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, is proud to present an extraordinary pop-up book in Spanish by legendary children’s book author/illustrator Maurice Sendak, distinguished author Arthur Yorinks, and best-selling paper engineer Matthew Reinhart. Published by Michael di Capua Books, the Spanish-language version of the #1 New York Times bestseller MOMMY?, entitled ¿MAMÁ?, will be released nationwide on December 4, 2006. ¿MAMÁ? is Maurice Sendak’s first pop-up book.

In ¿MAMÁ? everybody’s favorite monsters are just going about their business when a plucky little boy wanders into their cuckoo house. And what does he want? ¡El quiere a su mamá! No matter how scary these monsters are, there’s no besting a little boy who’s looking for his mommy. In one hilarious pop-up extravaganza after another, this kid shows them a thing or two.

Maurice Sendak has received the Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are, the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, the National Medal of Arts, and the first Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.

Arthur Yorinks has written and directed for opera, theater, dance, film, and radio and is the author of more than two dozen books for children, including the Caldecott Medal winner Hey, Al.

Matthew Reinhart illustrated and engineered the best-selling pop-up books Cinderella and, with Robert
Sabuda, Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs and Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Sharks and Other Sea Monsters.

MOMMY? was released in English on September 26, 2006, and has been on The New York Times Children’s Picture Book Best Seller List for 10 weeks to date. It was also named a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book of 2006, a Nick Jr. Family Magazine Best Book of 2006, and a School Library Journal Best Book of 2006. A reviewer at The Chicago Sun-Times raved, “If you’re going to buy only one children’s book of any kind this year, make it Mommy?”
