SANDRA DUNCAN NAMED PUBLISHER SCHOLASTIC EARLY CHILDHOOD TODAY™ MAGAZINE

New York, NY (November 6, 2003) -- Scholastic, the global children's publishing and media company, today announced the appointment of Sandra Duncan to Publisher of Scholastic Early Childhood Today Magazine, the leading magazine for early childhood professionals reaching more than 250,000 child care teachers and center directors with curriculum activities, teaching tips, management strategies and advice from experts in the field. Ms. Duncan will report to Michele Robinson, Group Publisher.

Since joining Scholastic in 1999, Ms. Duncan has served as Associate Publisher of Early Childhood Today, where she has been instrumental in helping to steadily increase advertising revenue by attracting a strong new client base, which most recently includes Children's World, Pearson Early Learning, Blue Bird Corp and S&S Worldwide. The magazine has also expanded in both circulation and subscription base through partnerships with major private child care chains. While serving as Associate Publisher, Ms. Duncan has helped to build Scholastic's Early Childhood Professional Awards, which is today the top national awards program to recognize the essential role played by early childhood educators. The highly successful program is celebrating its sixth annual ceremony on November 6th in Chicago, IL at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Conference.

“Sandra has done an exceptional job working with the team at Early Childhood Today to further build a publication that is truly a vital resource for early childhood professionals,” said Hugh Roome, President Scholastic International and Head of Scholastic Consumer Magazines. “This promotion reflects upon both Sandra's contributions to this field and Scholastic's enduring commitment to the education of young children.”

Ms. Duncan is the former Publisher and Editorial Director of Early Childhood News, owned by Excelligence Learning Corp, based in Monterey, CA, and before that was a Kindergarten teacher for seven years. She currently serves on the board of several national and regional early childhood associations such as the Primrose Schools, National School-Age Care Alliance, Book it!/Book it! Beginners, and the Early Childhood Program Committee at the University of Wisconsin.
