ReadAbout, published by Scholastic Education, a division of Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company, uses motivating 100% nonfiction reading material and an adaptive program to help students in grades 3-8 build academic vocabulary and content area knowledge and enhance comprehension skills.
This year's Technology & Learning Awards of Excellence winners were chosen by more than 35 educator-judges who test-drove the more than 110 entries and selected the best Software and Web-based programs of the year.
ReadAbout’s high-interest reading choices, engaging video clips, corrective feedback, personalized instruction, and unique digital reward system keeps students fully engaged, helping them to develop the skills they need to become effective readers. The program includes state-of-the art, adaptive software to provide continuous assessment and differentiated reading instruction for every child, whether they require intervention, instruction or enrichment.
“Year after year, the Technology & Learning Awards of Excellence reflect the highest quality educational software and web products,” said Margery Mayer, President, Scholastic Education. “We are thrilled that ReadAbout has been selected as a 2006 winner and is being recognized for providing engaging and individualized content and instruction to children at all reading levels.”
ReadAbout builds upon the findings of several distinguished educational experts in the areas of vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension strategy and motivational learning theory, including: Dr. Kevin Feldman, Director of Reading and Early Intervention, Sonoma County office of Education; Dr. Kate Kinsella, of the Department of Secondary Education, San Francisco State University; Dr. Jeffrey Wilhelm, Associate Professor at Boise State University; and renowned teacher and author Henry Jenkins.
