Scholastic, the global children's publishing and media company with sales outside the United States of over $300 million, announced the appointment of Frank Wong, President, Scholastic Asia reporting to Hugh Roome, President, Scholastic International. He will be based in the Scholastic Asia Hong Kong Regional Office. Mr. Wong replaces Barry Jones, who is retiring from the company as of October 31st.
Mr. Wong brings extensive credentials in building international businesses. Before joining Scholastic, he was Managing Director of PepsiCo's food business in China and established best practices in sales execution and in-store merchandising. Prior to PepsiCo, Frank Wong spent 5 years with Nabisco, successfully building the company's international brand identity. Wong also held various marketing positions at Colgate-Palmolive in New York and was co-founder and President of a start-up venture to develop and market special electronic products for the visually impaired around the world.
Mr. Wong was born in Hong Kong and speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese. He has a BA in International Affairs from George Washington University; a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University; and did advanced studies at Harvard's JFK School of Government.
Scholastic International's operations in Asia include companies in Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. Scholastic Asia has growing businesses in education, trade, home continuities and Scholastic Book Fairs and Book Clubs. Scholastic Asia sells English language reference materials and local language product through a network of approximately 2,500 independent sales representatives.
