Washington,
DC (September

2005) --
Intel Corporation and Scholastic today announced the 2005 Schools of Distinction Award winners – 20 K - 12 schools that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to achievement and innovation in education, and which serve as exemplary models for success.
To celebrate each school’s extraordinary commitment to educational excellence and innovation, the schools will each receive a $10,000 cash grant from the Intel Foundation in addition to a host of prizes ranging from curriculum materials and professional development resources to software and hardware valued at more than $3 million.
Representatives from the winning schools will also receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in an awards gala on Oct. 6. At the gala one primary and one secondary school, selected from among this year’s honorees, will be named “Best of the Best.” These winners will receive an additional $15,000 grant from the Intel Foundation.
The annual awards program, established by Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, and Intel, the world’s largest chip maker and long-time champion of educational improvement, rewards innovative initiatives that promote student achievement and educational innovation. Selected from more than 3,000 participating schools, the Schools of Distinction winners represent institutions from coast to coast.
“These schools have found innovative ways to achieve excellence in education,” said Brenda Musilli, Intel Director of Education. “From a highly diverse set of circumstances you find a common desire and ability to tackle challenges head on, continuously improve, and plan for the future.
