SCHOLASTIC ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGE IN E-SCHOLASTIC DIVISION


New York, NY (September 13, 2004) -- Scholastic announced today that Donna Iucolano, Executive Vice President of the company, and President of e-Scholastic since August 2000 is leaving the company to join IMP North America (International Masters Publishers) as CEO, effective September 23.
 
In making the announcement, Dick Robinson, Scholastic's Chairman, President and CEO, said: “In the past five years, Donna has built Scholastic.com into a strong multifaceted content and commerce site which serves millions of teachers, children and parents. Last year, products either sold or delivered by Scholastic through the Internet reached nearly $200 million worldwide. Donna and the highly qualified staff of e-Scholastic have built a strong, reliable and useful service, both in content and commerce, and helped Scholastic's Internet evolve into a major channel for the company.”
 
Scholastic.com features many creative sites including COOL (Club Ordering Online), currently processing more than one-third of U.S. book club orders; The Scholastic Store, an e-commerce site serving families; and The Teacher Store, selling Scholastic teaching resources, paperbacks and other products to both individual teachers and to school boards. Scholastic.com is the fourth most frequently visited site for teachers in the U.S. and the only one of the top rated sites devoted entirely to teaching resources, activities, lesson plans and tools for teachers. In May, Scholastic.com for teachers had l.26 million unique visitors, while the children's site and parent site together had l.34 million unique visitors. Total page views at Scholastic.com grew to 530 million in fiscal 2004, averaging approximately l0 million page views per week.
 
During her tenure, Ms. Iucolano established a solid technology infrastructure for the web site, which can handle 5 million orders per year and one half-billion page views on a 24- hour/7 day week basis. Scholastic.com features sites supporting the company's brand, books and content and has won awards from numerous organizations. Book Club orders from overseas teachers can now be processed through International COOL, which was launched on Friday, September l0, 2004.
 
Mr. Robinson announced that the company is recruiting for the head of the e-Scholastic division. David Crumrine, head of finance and strategy for e-Scholastic will be acting General Manager reporting to Mr. Robinson.
