ON PBS KIDS®

Crimson Canine and the American Humane Association
Spread the Word that October Is Adopt-A-Dog Month

New York, NY (August 30, 2006) -- This October, television’s most lovable canine, Clifford, celebrates American Humane’s Adopt-A-Dog Month® with a week-long TV special, “Clifford’s Mission: Paw-ssible,” featuring pet care-themed episodes of Clifford The Big Red Dog® and a brand-new episode of the successful spin-off series, Clifford’s Puppy Days™.  The adoption-fest begins on October 9 on PBS KIDS (check local listings).  As part of “Clifford’s Mission: Paw-ssible,” the popular pooch is teaming up with the American Humane Association in an effort to build awareness for Adopt-A-Dog Month and to help find safe, loving homes for as many needy dogs as possible.

Celebrated every October, Adopt-A-Dog Month encourages people to visit their local animal shelter to save a pet’s life by adopting a new “best friend” and provides an opportunity to teach the public how to care for their pets responsibly.

“No matter what his size, Clifford has always been a dog with a huge heart who exemplifies the values of sharing, gratitude, and kindness towards others,” said Deborah Forte, President of Scholastic Media, which produces both Clifford series. “By working with the American Humane Association for Adopt-A-Dog Month, we hope to give a strong voice to this special cause and help others realize the importance of helping all those in need.”

“Having Clifford as our official, celebrity ‘spokes-dog’ for Adopt-A-Dog Month sends a very, very big message to America," said Marie Belew Wheatley, American Humane's president and CEO.  "With his help, we can alert people to the huge problem of homeless dogs, with the ultimate goal of finding great homes for some really great pets.  Clifford to the rescue!”

CLIFFORD JOINS WITH THE AMERICAN HUMANE ASSOCIATION
With thousands of dogs around the country in need of a home, Clifford is taking “Mission: Paw-ssible” beyond the television screen to help his fellow four-legged friends.  The crimson canine is joining with the American Humane Association, which has named Clifford the official “spokes-dog” for Adopt-A-Dog Month, to help spread the word about the importance of pet adoption and the joys of pet ownership.  In addition, Clifford will lend a paw at an event to be held at Scholastic’s headquarters in New York City on October 7.
