Scholastic Education today announced that
READ 180 version 1.6, its research-based intervention program for struggling readers in grades 4 and above, is now available to run native on Mac OS X.
READ 180 v1.6, which also operates on Windows XP and 2000, helps students who are reading below grade level learn fundamental reading skills by addressing individual needs through adaptive and instructional software, high-interest literature, and direct instruction in reading skills.

New native Mac OS X versions of Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI), a computer-adaptive reading assessment test for students in grades 1-12 that accurately matches readers to text, and Scholastic Reading Counts!, the technology-based reading practice program, were also introduced today.

READ 180 is based on scientifically proven principles, offering intensive intervention for students in grades 4 and higher who are reading significantly below grade level. Students receive daily, intensive and individualized reading instruction for 90 minutes through data-driven technology, teacher-directed instruction, and high interest reading materials that are implemented in special
READ 180 classrooms. The unique set-up includes 5-7 computers, a comfortable library area for independent reading, and an area for small group instruction.
To engage the older struggling reader,
READ 180 uses cross-curriculum Topic Software and libraries of more than 150 leveled audiobooks and paperback books with high interest content. These materials are age-appropriate and written specifically for students who are reading below grade level and help motivate students to learn, practice and master key reading skills.
