Toy Line, Interactive Games, Publishing and Apparel Lay Foundation For Merchandising Program

New York, NY (July 25, 2007) -- It has been dubbed by many as the “next Lord of the Rings” and called a “brilliant” masterpiece by some of the world’s most renowned literary critics. The Golden Compass, the first book in the best-selling and award-winning His Dark Materials trilogy, published by Scholastic U.K., will hit the big screen on December 7, 2007.  Scholastic Media and New Line Cinema are now finalizing its licensing program.  With Sega tapped as interactive partner, master toy licensee Corgi International creating an extensive line of toys and collectibles, and a list of more than 40 licensing partners worldwide, The Golden Compass merchandising program is set to be a major holiday success story.

Scholastic has recently signed on Sababa Toys and MEGA Brands in the board game & puzzle category.  Each company will develop variations on board game themes that take players through the fantasy adventure created in The Golden Compass mythology.  Additional categories include apparel, home décor, card & DVD board game, food & candy, stationary, gift & novelty and publishing. Scholastic is publishing the movie tie-in books throughout the world in the English language.  The publishing covers a range of titles and formats, including The Official Illustrated Movie Companion, Visual Explorer – The Definitive Guide to Lyra’s World, The World of The Golden Compass, The Story of the Movie, Movie Storybook, Shuffle-Puzzle Book, Poster Book and The Official Movie Quiz Book.
