Scholastic Library Publishing, a leading print and online publisher of children's reference and non-fiction materials, announces the promotion of Mark Cummings to Vice President & Publisher of Reference. In his new role, Mr. Cummings is responsible for the editorial content and direction of the
Grolier and
Grolier Online imprints. He reports to Greg Worrell, President of Scholastic Library Publishing.
An experienced publisher and content developer with extensive knowledge of reference, library and educational markets, Mr. Cummings joined Scholastic Library Publishing (then Grolier Publishing Co. Inc.) in 1991 as editor-in-chief of
Encyclopedia Americana.
In 1996, he and his editorial team created and launched Grolier Online, a subscription-based reference service for schools and libraries. Grolier Online builds a “home to school” connection, offering both an instructional environment for teachers, as well as a direct source of information for students. Under his direction, the curriculum-driven education portal has become a reliable household name for online encyclopedias and quality reference resources.

Prior to joining Scholastic, Mr. Cummings was employed at Oxford University Press as a development editor and also spent several years as an editor at MacMillan Publishing.
Mr. Cummings is a graduate of Michigan State University and holds an M.A. and an M. Phil. from Yale University.
