DAYTIME EMMY® AWARD FOR “BEST WRITING IN ANIMATION” GOES TO SCHOLASTIC’S WORDGIRL® 


WORDGIRL says it is an “enormous” honor

New York, NY (June 20, 2008) -- Scholastic Media’s popular animated children’s series WORDGIRL® (www.scholastic.com/wordgirl), produced by its Boston-based animation house, Soup2Nuts, has won an Emmy® Award for “Outstanding Writing in Animation.” The award, presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the 35th Annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Daytime Emmy® Awards ceremony is the latest honor for this hit series which teaches kids new vocabulary in a fun and humorous way.

The series chronicles the madcap adventures of Becky Botsford, a mild-mannered 10 year old who, at the call of duty, transforms into WORDGIRL – caped crusader and definition dynamo!  With the help of her faithful monkey sidekick, Captain Huggy Face, WORDGIRL spends each episode defeating a quirky cast of villains – from “Dr. Two-Brains” to “The Butcher” – combining her power punches with some pretty impressive words. 
 
WORDGIRL has received several awards and accolades in the children’s programming genre since its debut last September, including a 2008 Parent’s Choice Award (www.parents-choice.org) in the Parent’s Choice Recommended category, a 2008 Pulcinella Award Official Selection (US) to participate in The International Showcase at CARTOONS ON THE BAY and most recently, a nomination from the Television Critics Association (TCA) for Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming Category. In addition, the show’s website was named a 2008 Finalist for the PRIX JEUNESSE INTERNATIONAL 2008 Interactivity Prize.
