SCHOLASTIC APPOINTS GREG WORRELL PRESIDENT LIBRARY PUBLISHING DIVISION


New York, NY (June 16, 2003) -- Scholastic Inc. announced today the appointment of Greg Worrell as President of the Scholastic Library Publishing division. Worrell is a ten-year veteran of Scholastic, and most recently served as Senior Vice President of sales and marketing for Scholastic Education, a leading provider of technology and reading products for K-12 schools.
 
In his new role, Worrell will oversee the company's library publishing business including editorial, marketing and sales of the division's major children's reference and nonfiction imprints including Grolier®, Grolier Online®, Children's Press®, and Franklin Watts®, and such notable reference resources as Encyclopedia Americana®, New Book of Knowledge®, and Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre en Linea®. Mr. Worrell will report to Margery Mayer, Executive Vice President, Scholastic and President of Scholastic Education.

While at Scholastic's Education division, Worrell and his marketing and sales teams helped grow the business through a number of key initiatives including increased focus on the customer, expanded service and technical support, and greater attention to market research and new product development. Mr. Worrell also implemented highly effective strategic sales programs and direct marketing promotions, taking advantage of Scholastic's channels into schools via sales force, catalog, telesales, and the Internet.
 
During his tenure, Worrell oversaw the marketing and sales efforts for Scholastic's research-based instructional materials including the company's breakthrough reading intervention program READ 180®, as well as other technology and reading improvement programs, assessment and management products, the company's 34 curriculum-based, grade-by-grade Classroom Magazines, and a wide range of supplementary materials.
 
Worrell joined Scholastic in 1992, where he developed new marketing channels for the company's flagship Classroom Magazines. Worrell also served as Chief Operations Officer for Quality Education Data, Inc. (QED) a Denver-based education market research and database company acquired by Scholastic in 1999. Before joining Scholastic, Worrell held positions at MCI Telecommunications where he supervised field sales and telemarketing for New York City and other major metropolitan areas, and worked as a political fundraiser in Washington DC.
 
Mr. Worrell will be based in Danbury, Connecticut.
