New York,
NY (May
26,
2005) --
Scholastic.com is the winner of the 2005 Best of the Web Award, an honor presented by WiredKids, an organization that operates WiredSafety.org, the world’s largest online safety and help group. Scholastic.com was nominated by children across the country and approved by parents as one of the best and safest Web sites for children. The award was presented yesterday at the WiredSafety Awards ceremony in Washington D.C.
Hundreds of sites were nominated by kids and screened and reviewed by parents for child-appropriate content and communications. Only 32 sites passed the parent review process this year and only six passed the tough privacy, security and safety tests of the WiredKids’ Executive Director and Internet privacy and security lawyer.
“We are honored to be recognized by WiredKids and by parents nationwide as a reliable and safe site for children, said Seth Radwell, President, e-Scholastic. “As a leading online destination for teachers, parents and children, Scholastic.com’s top priority is to ensure that children can visit a safe site that provides entertaining and educational content, dynamic activities and a chance to explore their favorite characters including
Clifford the Big Red Dog™,
Harry Potter™, and
Maya & Miguel™.”
“Scholastic.com is a one-of-a-kind site that allows children, parents and teachers to log on for a host of reasons that range from educational development to entertainment,” said Parry Aftab, Executive Director, WiredSafety.org. “Scholastic.com provides a wonderful destination for kids to explore the best of what the web has to offer. Even more importantly, the kids love it!”
The six Web sites to receive this year’s highest honor from WiredKids include:
Scholastic.com, AOL’s KOL,
