Scholastic Inc. announced today the appointment of Joe Reynolds as President of Scholastic Library Publishing effective immediately. Reynolds joins the company with an outstanding career in educational and library publishing, strengthened by an in-depth knowledge of books and technology. Mr. Reynolds will report directly to Scholastic’s Chairman, CEO and President, Richard Robinson.
Most recently, Mr. Reynolds was President and CEO of ProQuest Information and Learning, a company providing services to school and public libraries with $250 million in revenue and $50 million in operating income. In his four years at ProQuest, Mr. Reynolds grew online revenue by l50% and improved operating margin. He has created two education companies: bigchalk.com, a k-l2 education and online database company; and XanEdu, a custom publisher and e-learning provider focused on the post–secondary education markets.
In making the announcement, Mr. Robinson said: “Joe has an excellent understanding of schools and libraries, a good track record in technology and online learning, and a strong strategic vision for growing businesses. With his deep educational and business knowledge of library publishing, as well as experience in sales and marketing, we are confident Joe will help create real value for Scholastic and for Scholastic Library Publishing school and library customers.”
Mr. Reynolds spent l6 years with International Thomson Publishing Education Group. He began as sales manager for Delmar Publishers, became VP of Sales & Marketing in 1984, and in l990 was appointed President and CEO. In l995 he was named COO of Thomson School and Career Education Group and became CEO in l997.
Mr. Reynolds will be based in Danbury, Connecticut.
