Scholastic Parent & Child® Magazine, a leading childhood parenting magazine with an audience of more than 7 million readers, announces the appointment of veteran magazine publishing executives Risa Crandall as Publisher and Lisa Valiani as Advertising Director. The new publishing team is leading a strategic effort to meet the fast-growing consumer and advertising demand by increasing the magazine’s distribution and circulation. The publication, which is distributed through paid circulation directly to child-care centers and schools nationwide, has increased its frequency to eight times a year, up from six times; and will now include direct to consumer access through home subscriptions online and by testing newsstand sales. Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine recently received the 2006 iParenting Media award for Best Magazine.
“The mission of Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine is to serve as a connection between home and school and provide valuable content on child development and family activities,” said Risa Crandall, Publisher, Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine. “Increasing the frequency and circulation of our publication will help us satisfy the high demand for content and allow us to cover an even wider array of essential topics on childhood development and education that are relevant for parents today.”
The findings from a recent reader survey showed that Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine is “the most trusted source of child development information” and “the most capable of influencing their purchase decisions”, compared to other leading magazines within the parenting category. The study also revealed that 92 percent of parents read Parent & Child the day they receive it.
Before joining Scholastic as Publisher for Parent & Child, Risa Crandall was the Director of Business Development for Conde Nast Bridal Group. Her publishing background also includes serving as the Publisher for BabyTalk, Healthy Pregnancy, First Year and Childbirth Guides (Time Warner) and she also worked for Crayola Kids Magazine.
Lisa Valiani has been named Advertising Director of Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine. Prior to joining Scholastic, Lisa was Midwest manager of MidWest Living Magazine. Lisa’s background also includes Crayola Kids Magazine and Family Circle Magazine.
