Scholastic Library Publishing today announced that for the second year in a row, Grolier Online®, the leading online, age-appropriate reference resource for schools and libraries, has been selected as a 2007 Notable Computer Software for Children award recipient from the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). This prestigious annual award honors exemplary computer software and online resources for children.
An online learning tool, Grolier Online (go.grolier.com) is a fully integrated database collection and research portal for schools, public libraries, and homes—delivering age-appropriate, leveled educational content within a controlled research environment that is safe, fun and easy to use.
In making the announcement, the ALSC committee noted, “Scholastic sets a new standard with the 2006 additions to Grolier Online. The most notable enhancement is Amazing Animals of the World, a new database for grades 2 and above, which contains engaging articles, superb photos, and pre-selected Web links to accompany the text. Articles are Lexiled (leveled) and can be printed, emailed, and bookmarked. The biggest ‘wow’ goes to the multimedia feature showcase on Animals of Africa that takes students on a virtual tour of the Serengeti.”
“Scholastic has a longstanding history of developing high quality products and services that meet the ever-changing needs of students, teachers, librarians and parents. We are extremely honored that the Association for Library Service to Children has once again recognized Grolier Online as a valuable tool for enriching children’s research and learning experiences,” said Greg Worrell, President of Scholastic Library Publishing, a division of Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company.
