SCHOLASTIC CFO MARY WINSTON CHOSEN ONE OF BLACK ENTERPRISE MAGAZINE’S 50 MOST POWERFUL WOMEN IN BUSINESS

New York, NY (January 17, 2006) -- Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, is pleased to announce that Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mary Winston has been chosen as one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business by Black Enterprise magazine. Ms. Winston, who was one of only five CFO’s on the Most Powerful list, joined Scholastic in February 2004.  Since then, she has led efforts to improve profitability and cash flow, bringing the skills necessary to maintain dynamic growth in a more than $2 billion company.

Black Enterprise described Ms. Winston as, “A financial wizard and 20-plus year industry veteran…” due to her vast experience, serving in increasingly senior roles that span many different financial disciplines at several well-respected, multi-billion dollar global companies. Ms. Winston also sits on the board of directors and is a member of the audit committee for Dover Corporation, a diversified manufacturer of industrial products.

In addition to being recognized by Black Enterprise, Ms. Winston was previously named one of the 100 Most Influential People in Finance by Treasury & Risk Management magazine in 2003 and in 2004.
