Producer Paul R. Gagne Wins His Fifth Carnegie Medal and Producer Melissa Reilly Receives the Honor a Second Time for the Video Adaptation of Beloved Children's Picture Book “Giggle Giggle Quack” at ALA Mid-Winter Conference on January 12th in San Diego, California

New York, NY (January 15, 2004) -- Weston Woods, the industry leader in adapting award- winning children's literature into educational films and videos, and a division of Scholastic Inc., the global children's publishing and media company, was awarded the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence for the children's video Giggle Giggle Quack. Producer, Paul Gagne received his fifth Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video and producer Melissa Reilly received her second Carnegie Medal for the adaptation of the best-selling children's picture book. The industry's top honor will be presented to Gagne and Reilly at the ALA Summer Conference in Orlando, Florida in June.

The winners of the Carnegie Medal are selected based on quality, reflecting respect for a child's intelligence and imagination, use of special techniques such as visuals and music and adaptation of material from its original work. Giggle Giggle Quack is based upon the picture book written by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin and narrated by country star Randy Travis.

“It is a honor to be the recipient of the Carnegie Medal for Giggle Giggle Quack,” said Paul R. Gagne, Director of Production for Weston Woods Studios. “The engaging story, captivating music, fantastic characters and lively animation help bring the book to life.”

In Weston Woods' award winning video, Giggle Giggle Quack, Farmer Brown warns his brother Bob to "watch out for Duck - he's trouble,” before he leaves home for a vacation in the tropics. But the mischievously opportunistic duck can't resist taking full advantage of the situation - securing pizza, bubble baths and movie night for all his barnyard friends.

The Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video honors outstanding video production for children. Established by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the annual award is administered by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), through a Carnegie endowment.
