SCHOLASTIC APPOINTS HEATHER MYERS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT STRATEGIC PLANNING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT


New York, NY (January 6, 2004) -- Richard Robinson, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Scholastic Corporation (NASDAQ: SCHL) today announced the appointment of Heather Myers as Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning and Business Development, for the global children's publishing and media company. Ms. Myers joins the company with significant experience in strategic planning and business development for media, entertainment, and retail companies.

In her role at Scholastic, Ms. Myers will focus her attention on strategic planning for all of Scholastic's business units with particular attention to resource allocation, business development and overseeing new business ventures for the corporation.
 
Ms. Myers led strategic business development efforts for Universal Studios, Inc. for more than six years in the television, motion picture, theme park and music businesses. As Vice President, Project Manager, Acquisition Integration from 1998 to 1999, she managed Universal's merger with PolyGram, the world's largest music company at the time, on a global basis, resulting in cost savings of over $300M. In 1999, Ms. Myers became the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Global e, the digital music division of the Universal Music Group. Before accepting that role, Ms Myers was the Senior Vice President of Operations for the e-commerce and advanced technology group within Universal Music.
 
Ms. Myers' experience prior to Universal includes management of a manufacturing business, The Feltman-Langer Company, based in Los Angeles CA. From 1987-1994, Ms. Myers held various positions at L|E|K, Inc., a London-based consulting firm. Ms. Myers graduated from the Harvard Business School in 1992 and from Dartmouth College in 1987. She resides in New York, NY.
