New York, NY, March 14, 2005 – Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, today announced the appointment of Stefan Kohler to the position of Vice President, Intervention K-12+, Scholastic Education. Mr. Kohler will head the newly created Intervention K-12+ business unit, responsible for the development, sales, marketing and implementation of intervention programs and cutting edge education technology solutions to serve the K-12 market and beyond. Mr. Kohler will direct the Company’s business strategy for READ 180,
® the groundbreaking research-based reading intervention program, now in use in more than 5,000 classrooms nationwide. He will report to Margery Mayer, President, Scholastic Education.

A veteran executive with extensive experience in the education technology and publishing industries, Mr. Kohler has held a number of management, operations and engineering positions throughout his 20-year career. Prior to joining Scholastic, Mr. Kohler served as President and C.E.O. of Virtual Ink Inc., an interactive white board company that develops hardware and software products for classroom use. In that role, he worked extensively with schools and districts, here and abroad, on every aspect of the business, from strategy and product development to sales, implementation and service. He also served as President of Delta Education, a leading science and math publisher, where he was responsible for sales, marketing, IT, Operations, Research and Development and new business. He has held various management positions at Allied-Signal, Inc., MicroTouch Systems, Inc, and began his career at GTE Government systems. Mr. Kohler holds an engineering degree from Boston University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
