Applying is a 2-step process.
- First, create an electronic application document.
- Second, submit the document online.
Step One: Create your application document
The document must be in one of the following file formats (virtually all word processing programs can export a document in at least one of these formats):
- Rich Text Format (.rtf)
- Microsoft Word (.doc)
- Plain text (.txt)
Include the following items in this order:
- Your current resume
- A cover letter
- An essay in 350 words or less describing how your personal, academic, and/or professional experiences influence your ability to bring a diverse perspective to Scholastic

Step Two: Submit your application document
- Click the name of a department (below) that you would like to apply to.
- On the page that opens, click the
“Import a Resume” button (top right).
- Log in or create an account, then follow the instructions to create your profile and submit your application document.
- You can apply to up to 3 departments. Be sure to list your first, second and third choices in the first line of your cover letter.
Departments
- Accounting & Finance
Manages all financial and budgetary aspects of entire business, including strategic planning, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Art & Design
Working with the marketing team/designers to create material to best represent Scholastic books and products.
- Communications/Media Relations
Responsible for the Intranet and its content, this department publicizes activities and important events through global email messages, flyers, and company calendar. It also creates communications to educate and promote Scholastic to those outside the organization.
- Editorial
Classroom magazines, educational products and books in hardcover and paperback imprints across Scholastic's divisions are developed to reach educators, children and parents. Positions include copyediting, proofreading, writing, and trafficking.
- Human Resources
Manages Scholastic’s policies, procedures, compensation and benefit programs to support employees and managers in creating a productive work environment.
- Information Technology
To keep Scholastic running smoothly and efficiently, IT installs and supports all technology used throughout the organization.
- Legal
Manages all legal aspects of organization including author contracts and stockholder informational material.
- Library Resources
Maintaining Scholastic’s extensive database that contains all the materials in the Library and its archive of company products. Members of this department also assist in researching issues and trends, conduct fact-checking and competitive research.
- Logistics
Manages the planning as well as controls the flow of goods and materials for Scholastic’s complex and large-scale operations.
- Manufacturing Production
This department manages the purchasing and production of raw materials in order to manufacture Scholastic books and products under quality control standards established by this group.
- Marketing
Uses various methods including integrated marketing, advertising, custom publishing services and data analysis, in order to successfully promote Scholastic products to reach educators, students and parents.
- Supply Chain
Supply Chain Services perform steps to bring Scholastic’s books and products to market, such as warehousing, managing transportation, and running delivery and returns programs, in addition to providing customer support.
- Web
Utilizing technology, Scholastic.com creates interesting content, successful presentation of books and products for all of Scholastic’s customers.
