How Do I Apply
Apply by visiting the Scholastic Career Center and completing Summer Internship Program Requisition. If you experience problems creating a profile and uploading your resume please send an email to: internships@scholastic.com.

What are the application deadlines?
Interested candidates can apply online until May.14st, 2010.

What does the internship pay?
Interns are paid $12 per hour.

In what departments are internships available?
Internships are available in accounting & finance, marketing, editorial, art & design, information technology, supply chain, logistics, legal, communications, library resources, and manufacturing production and e-commerce.

What does each department do?

  • Accounting & Finance: Manages all financial and budgetary aspects of entire business, including strategic planning, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Art & Design: Working with the marketing team/designers to create material to best represent Scholastic books and products.
  • Corporate Communications: Responsible for the Intranet and its content, this department publicizes activities and important events through global email messages, flyers, and company calendar. It also creates communications to educate and promote Scholastic to those outside the organization
  • Editorial: Classroom magazines, educational products and books in hardcover and paperback imprints across Scholastic's divisions are developed to reach educators, children and parents. Positions include copyediting, proofreading, writing, and trafficking.
  • Information Technology: To keep Scholastic running smoothly and efficiently, IT installs and supports all technology used throughout the organization.
  • Legal: Manages all legal aspects of organization including author contracts and stockholder informational material.
  • Logistics: Manages the planning as well as controls the flow of goods and materials for Scholastic’s complex and large-scale operations.
  • Library Resources: Maintaining Scholastic’s extensive database that contains all the materials in the Library and its archive of company products. Members of this department also assist in researching issues and trends, conduct fact-checking and competitive research.
  • Manufacturing Production: This department manages the purchasing and production of raw materials in order to manufacture Scholastic books and products under quality control standards established by this group.
  • Marketing: Uses various methods including integrated marketing, advertising, custom publishing services and data analysis, in order to successfully promote Scholastic products to reach educators, students and parents.
  • Supply Chain: Supply Chain Services perform steps to bring Scholastic’s books and products to market, such as warehousing, managing transportation, and running delivery and returns programs, in addition to providing customer support.
  • E-Commerce: Utilizing technology, Scholastic.com creates interesting content, successful presentation of books and products for all of Scholastic’s customers.

Do you only have a summer intern program? Are there openings in the fall and winter?
Yes we do. If any positions are available they will be listed online. Go the main Career page and search internships.

What is the dress code?
Dress codes vary by department you work in but generally is business casual is appropriate. No flip flops.

Are there any activities during the internship program?
Yes, if you are in the NY program we have weekly sessions where you get a chance to hear from SVP, VP and Senior Managers giving career advice and information regarding their divisions. There will also be mentoring sessions and other activities such as a newsletter.

I am not from NY. Do you have information regarding housing?
Please note that housing is ultimately the responsibility of the intern.

Where are the internships available at Scholastic?
The main internship program is in NYC.

What neighborhood is Scholastic located in NYC?
The corporate office of Scholastic is located in downtown Manhattan called "SoHo" which is one of trendiest neighborhoods in the city.

What are the work hours?
Typically the work hours are nine to five but may vary slightly depending on department.

I am not a junior or senior can I still apply?
Yes. Although main program is geared toward Juniors and Seniors but a few opportunities may be provided for graduating seniors.
