As part of Scholastic’s long-term Gulf
Coast School Recovery Initiative, the company will continue
to work closely with state agencies, school districts and nonprofit
organizations to make meaningful contributions that meet the
educational needs of children from the region.
- The company is well on its way to providing a half-million dollars worth of books and reference material to Gulf Coast schools and nonprofit organizations through the Book Clubs’ ClassroomsCare initiative, Book Fairs’ One for Books program, and direct corporate donations.
- Working with educators and administrators from the region, the company is spearheading the creation of a professional development curriculum on school recovery for school leaders.
- To draw attention to the critical role school libraries will play in Gulf
Coast recovery, Scholastic with the American Association of
School Librarians, convened School Libraries Work: Rebuilding
for Learning, a national town hall meeting at the American
Library Association’s Annual Conference. First Lady Laura
Bush joined local and national government officials, educators,
business leaders, and thousands of concerned librarians from
across the country for this special event. The town hall was
moderated by Lester Holt, NBC News Weekend TODAY Anchor.
