I would love to be friends with Grace Edwards. She's from Texas and so is some of my family. Her life in this book seemed real hard but she lived through it all. This book also taught me about the dust bowl and the people’s hardships and all the trips to California .

If I could be friends with one of the Dear America characters, I would choose Kristina (Kristina: The Girl King) because she is honest and not afraid to speak her mind.

The Dear America characters are brave, courageous girls who go through tough times throughout history, but deep down, they're just like girls today. If I could be friends with one of the Dear America characters, I would be friends with Remember Patience Whipple because even though she faces tough times, she never stops looking for an adventure, and she is very brave.
- Jaclyn C.
If I could be friends with one of the Dear America girls it would have to be Kathleen Bowen. The book she was in was called “A Time for Courage". I would love to be friends with Kathleen because it bothers me how in some countries women are not considered equal to men. I liked how in her story a lot of women fought for their right to vote. It showed courage and undying determination. And Kathleen was in the center of it all. She was brave although she didn't think so and that’s what I like about her.
- Sandra V.

It would be Remember Patience Whipple because I think that is the best Dear America book and I would like to find out what happens to her after the book ends. And I think she would be a Good and True friend to have! -Susanna M.
Jessie, because she seems brave.
-Melissa M.
I would be friends with Mary Driscoll because she's not afraid to speak for what she believes! And because she's so sweet.

If I could be friends with one of the Dear America characters, I would be friends with Emma Simpson. I chose her not just because I only read her diary, but because she was in a great period of time that I love. Emma and I had so many similarities that I thought I knew her for a long time.
